I think I’m stuck in a weird spot with all my computer monitors and TVs…too much volume for a small shop to sit on, not enough to entice a buyer.

So I’m thinking of removing the LCD panels out of all of them so I can scrap the bodies. Panel glass alone takes up much less space, after all.

Does anyone have connections with LCD recyclers? Literally just the panel not whole monitors. I found one in VA that sounded promising but they haven’t responded to multiple inquiries.

I’ll try to be as honest as I can and keep this apolitical, since both parties are responsible for the mess in recycling now.

10 years ago selling used LCDs was rather easy. Today, there are very few places in this country that will pay for them. The majority of LCD recycling happens in India, Thailand, and Vietnam. (You can ignore the docudramas from investigative “reporters”, yes those toxic sludge sites exert all over the world, including here. They are extremely rare in a rather highly patrolled and maintained industry. Here’s what’s political and please leave it at this.
The last president believed the fictional hype from his advisers and, (with the help of Congress) made exporting whole ewaste very difficult. The current one has messed around with tariffs so much that even if you could get the materials out at any sort of profit, you can’t get the recovered materials back.
Add to that a few states’ laws that require manufacturer take-back. That killed off what was left of the pay to recycle market for large screens.


So back to the question.
If you want to get paid, sell them on ebay or whatnot, etc. if they are working sell them on your own website and pay the $2 a month for search feeding which will get you on all 3 major search engines in the shopping listings.

You may be able to get rid of them, while monitor or screen, with an online company. Though most will charge shipping. Sites like cash4lcd and buybroke etc.

If you live in a “Green” Blue State you can probably bulk drop them somewhere for free semi-locally. If you live in the rest of the states you likely have municipal level options, such as county drop of days.
If all else fails, companies like got junk, hunks, and dino junk tend to be reliable in safe disposal, and are regularly audited.

I honestly don’t care if I get paid for the screens I just don’t want to spend a big pile of money trying to get rid of them. I have hundreds. I view them as a necessary evil that allows me access to take more valuable materials.

Call your county office and ask if they have escrap recycling. With the exception of some places in cal and Washington, you won’t get rid of a hundred at a time, but you could dump 5-10 to 20 or so per trip.

If you live in an industrial area, look up television/monitor companies and see if you have on in your area that may take them for free.

Call Dell and HPE customer service and ask for advice.

But I’ve honestly taking a liking to TerraCycle’s escrap pallet. They guarantee zero waste. No weight limit. It’s a heavy duty recycled material sided gayloard. Costs roughly a fifteen-hundred per pallet. Comes with included gate-lift drop off and pickup.
And no rush, keep it a day, week, month, or two years as i have.

Mine sits empty for months since my local yard will buy anything that isn’t cost effective for boardsort. But they won’t take displays of any kind, tube, lcd, digital ink, none. TC takes them all.

Call around to local yards, they may just take them as shred.

All of my LCDs just go as shred.

My local yard doesn’t take monitors or TVs of any kind

Most yards won’t touch monitors or televisions.
They are regulated hazmat.

I’m not trying to point at anyone, but when it comes to metal recyclers if they take LCDs and don’t have a state hazmat licence for it front and centre for looking at at the till, they lost my business permanently.
Those few yards that do take them are either very proud of their hazmat licensing, or are actually illegally taking them and shredding them. Which is not just illegal, its environmentally evil.

And yes, I’ll extend a branch to the reputable scrap yards that take them for free as a thankyou to their customers… but I don’t see how any yard is going to pay you. Especially now.

I used to pay the $10 each and hand TVs over to my municipal disposal site, after I cleaned everything out of the frame. Then I found out my yard takes them as shred. I was morally conflicted, until I found out the people who take the TVs from my municipal disposal site *trash the screen in regular trash because that is legal in this state*.

Same state as Boardsort.

So, I started shipping them as shred to my yard because they send their 'shred' out of state to be processed, and the destination state has laws on lcd disposal. I figure if enough of those screens show up they'll eventually put something in place to process them correctly.

Exactly the same for me. They take LCDs so I just trust that they're doing the right thing. It's not my business to be interrogating them about what they're doing with them - and if you're in NEO we may even be taking them to the same place lol
