I’ve got about 25lbs of RAM with heat shields. Two questions:

1. Is apply some amount of heat the best way to remove them as to not damage the chips? At this scale I’m not sure how practical that might be.

2. Is it ALWAYS best to remove all shields or in the case of particular large/heavy/bulky shields does the math typically work out better to keep it on?

You’ll never earn more per pound leaving the shields on.

I have a bunch with EXTREMELY heavy heatsinks (2.7oz per stick) so I’m not sure your absolute is accurate.

But to my other question on removal…cause thus far almost or all chips are getting pulled off the sticks when just popping cold with a screw driver…that kind of damage is gonna hurt my rate more than anything

Almost, there’s always exceptions to every rule

Many suggest freezing. I’ve always had better luck with a heat gun myself. But I can understand issues with quantity so attempting freezing may be worth while.
It depends on the type of paste used to attach the spreaders.

I’m intrigued by your heatsink size claim. Any chance you could post a picture?

Yeah I’ll post some pictures in a bit when I get back to the office. They are thick like extruded motherboard heatsinks - and on both sides.

I've run into copper heatsinks a couple times... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

chunky!

They have clips so you have the advantage of taking them apart and weighing all the bits to confirm pricing and then put it back together if it's more cost effective.
