Hi everyone,

My client gave me, with a signed contract to recycle, 300 D-link routers/switches.

I am torn between low or high peripheral because there is a little blue clip tray that pops out. I was going to email Chris but I figured let me ask here first. All are virtually identical.

Heat sinks will be removed. Metal shell will be removed. Pictures of 1 I took apart for reference. Thank you for any help !

Main board, removed from case and aluminum heatsink removed, high peripheral

I can't recall on the optical module where those have gone. The shell is likely a Zinc alloy.

Thank you!

I emailed Chris just to be safe considering the volume I will be sending.

Chris confirmed high peripheral for the main board. The thumb drives goes into connector ends.

I recall someone saying they throw those blue clip module trays in connector ends as is. I take mine apart, but Marked141 is correct the bottom casing is a zinc alloy which I toss in die cast pile for my local yard, don't recall if top shell part is stainless or not. Been a while since I took one apart and don't remember what the board looks like but I think I usually add them to high peripheral.

connector ends sounds about right but what do they look like on the inside ? could they go as something else if you pull them apart?

I did not see an easy way to take the thumb drives apart easily.

Also, the heat sinks on the main board are really glued/pasted on the chip. I worked on 4 today. 1 chip came off with the heat sink and the other 3 stayed on the board. Rather defeated at this point as I am at a loss to what to do.

I have used heat to loosen up that glue. A few seconds under a heat gun. I have heard that cold can work too but I haven't tried it.

Yup heat gun or propane torch or similar, just be careful to direct the heat at the heatsink. You can just tape that popped IC back to the board

You all rock! Thank you so very much for this information. My dad and I were so worried we messed up with these boards.

I am so grateful for this community. Thanks again everyone.
