Hi there,

I swear I saw a video once on how to process the yellow and black tantalum, but I cannot find it on your youtube or on your site. It showed how you had to remove the "legs" on either side of it before you send it in. Is that true? Is that why it is a "blue," complex item?

Thank you,

Justin

The class is complex because not every yellow and black square is tantalum.

It’s not a class that general scrappers are going to get correct.

Oh dang. So, for the low price per pound and how many it takes to get per pound it doesn't seem worth it for either party.

I highly recomend this You Tube video. Sharkscrapper. A lot of good information. On your question.
I do not pull MLCC from boards. Though tempting. Like lostinlodos said. "COMPLEX"

Here to learn like everybody else.
My evaluations are my own opinion

BS wants you to remove the legs even with the SMD. They easily bend off and break flush with your hands.

Yellow and black only. They will all have a positive marked line and a "+" inline with the mark. Don't get this confused with regular capacitors or electrolytic caps. They will all be square.

Tantalum comes in DIP caps and in line resistors as well but BS only buys them if tested and quantity permitted.

It's not worth removing Tantalum. Takes a lot to even get a lb. This is more for over stock and companies with outdated materials that have stock.

Ok, that makes sense. I won't waste my time collecting them.

yellow with a + sign Tantalum, most yellow ones are Tantalum in general tho, black with a + likely Tantalum, black with a line likely not Tantalum. and on the topic of MLCCs, anything newer then the mid 90s is likely not to have any silver in them. test with good magnet, if the MLCC sticks no silver.

IDK about the epoxy coated bubble Tantalum caps.
