Depends on the cpu. They buy nearly all of them though

Most of my server CPUs are tossed to my scrap pile to send in later as scrap cpus.

Most recent are a few e5-26xx v2, maybe worth 10-15 US on eBay (v4 versions worth more) but that price range is not worth my time. Server processors get outdated quicker than desktop ones for value. If I find anything newer looking I will do a quick eBay search under sold listings for a better idea of its worth but generally just toss them in the scrap box.

There's no list on the test and buy page for server CPUs, but some have resale value.

If we’re talking about not scrapping?
For x86 stuff generally anything older than 2 generations is scrap. Sure you can sell a 5 year old opteron for $20 or even $50. But you post is, Waze months for a buyer. Have to ship it perfectly. Go through troubleshooting compatibility. Deal with a frustrated less than technical customer and an ebay compliant. Much paperwork to win your case. Etc.

That generally goes for all pro and server x86/AMD64 stuff no matter how old. A working pentium pro is a few dollars more than a dead one.

RISC processors are different. Working Spark and HP and Texas Instruments CPUs etc command a premium working. A surprising number of those systems are still in use. From hobby computing to collecting to factory and industrial.

There’s a decent market for consumer 32-bit x86 CPUs too. Though 486 and older are generally worth scrap price as modern plastic DIPs and socket adapter sets cost $10 and modern virtualisation software is reliable.

Just like old coins, you have to know what you are looking at or find a reliable resource for information. I just looked up a Intel Xeon E5-2690 V3 and the value was $0.00, however the Intel Xeon E5-2699 V3 is worth $6.00.

There’s some rare outliers but generally speaking if it’s not AMD your sweet tenge is P5 and back or within 22 months.

AMD has a high end following in the early x64 era since they can drop in replace many cpu other than Intel. Via, acorn, trident, hw, etc
