The two I said were good for pins are good to send as is for a pin quote.
The gold pin connector class was set up to recognise the value of gold pins Ofer standard copper wire ends. It covers most plastic and metal gold pin connectors. When it comes to gold pins, and having plastic, they are handled separately at Boardsort. If the pin weight far exceeds the plastic weight it’s safe to send them for a pin quote.
Chris et al has picked a certain point where ends are better than the connector class but not good enough for the manual labour of doing a pin quote; which is very time consuming. Their actual decision rules are unknown to me and not set in stone anywhere. My guiding which has generally met with their approval has been, if the adapter is not worth taking apart, it’s a gold pin connector. If it’s worth taking apart for a gold pin quote on the pins it is peripheral class. I usually extract the pins from peripheral quality connectors, though not always. So when I upgraded someone’s gold pin connector on the boards it’s because I would probably take that connector apart myself.
So to answer the question on the just barely connector for you it’s because if I had nothing else to do that day I MAY, or may not, snip it open and extract the pins.
