Im a new person to the E-waste market, I'm looking for suggestions on what to do with higher volume of components. Periodically I have access to high volume of different types of E-waste and don't know whether it is better to try to sell it (where to list) or scrap it through Boardsort.

The items I have are new old stock. Most are packaged in factory packaging (ESD tubes/trays) or tape and reel. The boardsort pricing looks pretty straight forward for the CPU's as example. I have hundreds of 486/386 and 186 CPU chips all new and in factory packaging. On one hand it seems a shame to dump them all out of the waffle trays and tubes into a cardboard box for scrap, but maybe that is the best value or are there sources that buy unused stock of the older chips.

What about other high quantity new items without high gold content. Any market for them?

Examples below....I photographed some components and other package labels if unopened.

I appreciate any advice including whether it is best to just dump the CPU's loose into boxes sorted by the type and ship to Board sort. Since I've not unpackaged the chips yet, I don't have a good feel for their weight without the trays and tubes so I have not entered the items into their quote request pages

Whew. IMO, kind of difficult decision as well.

With them being NEW, old stock, I would assume trying to sell *some* of the boxes or trays to enthusiast's and collectors. With the material being a sought after component and a "era" chip.

You need to wait for a response from,' lostinlodos ', he is very in parallel with the vintage and collecting world of Electronics.
E-mail Chris, there's a chance he might purchase these more than CPU price for resale; but it's a thought, unsure.

486s are running $20+ nos and ob.

Being in original stock packaging, I would suggest weighing a chip and figuring out which is more beneficial a bulk sale or a bulk scrap

Keep in. Mind 8-bit DIPs still sell very well.
For ones that would otherwise be IC definitely sell them. The average price appears to be around $20

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll send a message to Chris as well.

Part of the challenge is that I do not like to unpack the chips from the tubes or trays if I'm going to sell for use. The weight of them in the tubes and trays is inflated more than just dumping them in a box.

If Chris wants them in original packaging then I can ship them that way and he can decide to sell or scrap. I also just looked and I have 100+ of 386 CPU's as well.

You can email him directly though boardsort doesn’t usually buy CPUs to resell except through their limited testable … doesn’t hurt to ask
