I have typical aluminum heatsinks from motherboards etc. But they are blue. Some black. Are these considered clean aluminum heatsinks by Boardsort. I ask this question based upon viewing the picture on the Boardsort escrap price list. All the picture shows are noncolored heatsinks. Yes. I know to clean any thermal compound off.

Generally yes that’s still clean. For Boardsort

Thanks lostinlodos. I figured I was correct. They were clean. But. As it is. I knew enough not to be POSTIVE. That's an old electronic technician joke. You never want to be positive.

Boardsort considers them clean.

A local yard may, or may not. Some buy them as dirty, or as aluminium rims, or painted, Clean gutters.

Also scratch painted one. Especially heavy ones. Make sure they’re not copper.

Yeah. I saw on You tube. Color can mean copper. But. Just trying to be practical here. Utilty. I can't reply intelligently about my local scrapyard concerning any form of e-scrap. I have dealt with them only with: for lack of a better phrase. Straight up scrap. We do have a clean up recyle center. But. Old CRT TV. Big Screen. Microwave. Other similiar are left on the street. It's evolving. No doubt.

Almost all yards in Ohio, will still take these as clean AL, or clean AL extrusion.
You can get AL clip or MLC for these too, which is higher AL per lb priced materials.
That coating is an anodized coat. Gives it resistance. Painted is different and lower price usually. An easy way to determine either or, scratch it. Paint flakes and chips, it's paint, if it just scores or rolls AL pieces, it's anodized; it also makes like a " fingers on chalk board noise", when scratched, it's anodized.

CU, ones you can easily identify by the weight too, especially comparing to an AL one in the other hand.
