File comment: Clarification on grade

I know the pins on the right in the picture are graded as "Gold Plated Pins" on the Payout Rates page but what about the pins on the left? They all have gold plating in some fashion but not fully as the ones on the right. Are these are under the same grade as well? Or would this be a question better suited for Chris himself to decide?

I ask due to the reason of when I send stuff in because it's not in large amounts I don't see it as being very profitable for me to keep the partial plated pins in the connectors for the low price per pound paid for connectors in comparison to what I would spend on shipping to get them there (I do understand the reasoning behind the pricing though)

Thank you in advance for all your patience with my questions. :)

That’s one for Chris. Pins have a set price now instead of class quoting.

Thank you for the quick response Lost! :)

I've emailed Chris with a request for his decision on this.

The pins on the left would probably pay only $2 per pound or less, at least based on the picture. It does not appear that they are all gold.

The pins on the right could bring more than $5 per pound, but I rarely commit to higher pin prices without having them in hand.

One thing that will affect price is the mix. Pins that are pure in sort will bring the better price. If we have to pick lower grade pins out of a pile of pins, we will pay the lower price. Way too time consuming to be able to pay top dollar and still have to clean/sort pile.

Thank you Chris!

Some of those pins on the left that appear not to be gold plated are plated only on one side.

I'll make to sure to keep the 2 styles as shown seperate as to hopefully make the process easy for both sides.

Thank you again Chris for chiming in on this matter. :)

The ones on the left are crimp pins. Like you find in female connectors. They’re usually only plated on one side, and almost always only half way unless...
it is from before the late 80s where it was less costly to plate the entire pins than the more labouring task of half plating.
The other place quarter plated pins are common is serial card connectors. Eg usb, SD cards, cartridges, and any wedge connectors. Commonly both male and female ends are the same pin style with SCC plugs and sockets.

FWIW imnsho pulling pins from parallel, old serial, pcmcia and bus connectors tend to be worth it. Pulling usb, vga, sata, and the like no t so much.
