Hi all, new scrapper and seeking feedback on the following:

1. For very small bits of wire; Can I include essentially any size with "mixed wire?

2. For connector ends with no visible gold (e.g. 3.5 mm headphone jack); are these just trash? Should I remove them before including with mixed wire?

Thx!

Headphone jacks could be brass. Take a file to them and scratch the plating. Should see yellow tone. Brass is not trash.
Here to learn like everybody else.

I've heard horror stories about ends of cables hurting people in scrap yards, but I've never understood how it happens. So...defer to whoever you take your wire to.

I'm not sure what Boardsort's policy on that is but the intention of connector ends is for connector ends with gold pins.

For me the rest of the connectors stay on the wire as my scrap yards don't require them to be removed.

One common problem is with automated stripping and removal machine machines. Missing or failing to remove the plug ends will create a projectile.

I removed the plugs before selling wire because I get a higher rate for the Cable ends as opposed to the wire itself generally
I don’t believe boardsort has a preference I’ve sent wire within without ends.

My local yard now buys the insulated copper wire with connector ends as #3, which is great for the small and lightweight wire. However, anything that that is #2 with the ends removed is only logical to clip the end, as currently #2 insulated is a dollar more a pound than #3. I was clipping heavy copper flat connectors on one end, and six goldplated female insert connectors on the other end on each wire of stranded bundles, about 15 connectors each bundle. Wound up with 20 pounds of clean #2 Cu, and 30 pounds of gold plated connectors...instead of them going into the dollar a pound # 3 bin. Less volume , about 4 garbage cans full to haul with the circuit boards to Ohio.
