Are only the fat power adapter's accepted? Or are regular plugs accepted as well?

Is this what you are calling a normal power adapter? If so it's just called a plug (or a NEMA 5-15 plug)

and that would go as mixed wire.

I have to cut those ends off wire at my local yard or they downgrade the wire to .30/lb. :(
