What cpu category does this fit in? Green without metal? The gold chip on the back threw me off though.

Looks like you have some thermal paste to remove. In addition. When you attempt to remove the thermal compound does the gold scraped off. Is that the case? I'm thinking you have a gold piece of foil that was placed on the chip to increase cooling performance. Look into it.

Green fiber with and without metal categories are intended for CPUs with pins, this appears to be a pinless CPU but without a metal cap and doesn't look like it ever had one. Probably need to get in touch with Chris directly as this doesn't fit neatly into a category.

Look at photo 2758. Read the replies. It is or isn't a chip with a "gold" thermal pad.
Please post your reply you recieve from Chris.

That's definitely a little thermal pad there. The CPU in question here doesn't look like a thermal pad to me, more like a thin heatsink on the silicon wafer that's usually there. Maybe fisherman88 can snag another photo at a slight angle for us?

Regardless, it's definitely an oddity and look forward to seeing what Chris says.

That's a SK1366 xeon from a old mac pro. I have no clue of that's gold plated or brass, but it's no thermal pad. I would email chriss about this too.
