Are these pics the 2 sides of the same board or two different boards?

If the pins go through both sides I think it'd be pinboard, but if it's just those sockets (sans the plastics) on one side of a board, I don't think the lack of plastic pushes it above backplane,

Those are both cube server backplanes. While I’ll say backplane at the moment I would suggest emailing Chris the link to this post. These are not the full 4U/8U blocks that definitely go as pin board but may still be large enough to make it.
Those are card connectors, not cable. And that’s one of the key differences in class. I’m not positive so I’ll let him make the call.
