This was at the bottom of a laptop not sure what it would be.

My first guess unless it's a very high end laptop (Falcon NW, ibuypower, etc) is brass.

Fastest way to tell on your own is take a small standard (flat head) screwdriver size 2 or smaller or a heavy box cutter blade and gouge it. The deeper the better.
If there's a different colour underneath it's gold plated.
If not it's brass
Always good to look since gold can be found in all sorts of strange places of little logical use.

If it's two colours it's gold plated. Yes in with pins is your best choice for that.
