Came across this black motherboard anyone know what category?

Small socket. You should probably unscrew the plastic piece that surrounds the socket.

definitely agree with Kmt16200. The socket type appears to be a P4 or AMD CPU socket. The plastic shroud around the socket can be removed with a screwdriver. Also remove the CMOS battery and aluminum heat sink that is near it.
