Hello! I have a few small boxes of these. Do I just go "Connector Ends"? I only found one post that mentioned mil-spec being more in the past.

Lacking in knowledge and information hasn't always kept me from voicing speculation about a subject. I have also encountered milspec and had/have questions. In the case of these connectors as shown, I am inclined to think the milspec was/is geared more toward the moisture proof or resistance of the seal more than the actual gold percentage. If you were processing for the gold at home, the pins and socket would probably give more gold than is generally expected, but overall the heaviness of the plug and insulation would counter the value of the extra thickness of the plating. But then, I am accustomed to steel scrapping, where one thinks in terms of pounds and tons, rather than ounces and grams.

Thanks for the input! Some of these are very heavy and no easy way to remove housings. I'll keep them separate from other connectors but send them in as base connector grade.

Some can be disassembled fairly easily (with effort) but some seem like they're intended never to disassemble.

For ones that can be disassembled, look for retaining rings/clips and see if you can remove them, hopefully things fall apart from there. Sometimes things unscrew, be it an actual screw or just part of the housing being threaded. Some pins are press fit, so if they went in you can push them out, if you have the means.

For things that you can't figure out or just can't get apart, break the housing. Crush it, cut it, beat it with a hammer until it cracks...

Oh back to the original topic. The orange one I'd hesitate on since it's so large, especially if it's metal, but the connector ends category is for connectors with gold plated pins so it's probably fine. If I was sending it in I would likely send them all as connector ends but make sure the orange one is separated for verification.

Thanks for the reply! The orange connector was the only one in the lot. There is about 40lbs of the connectors pictured above the orange one. I'll see what I can crush to lower weight.

Like I said the orange one is the only one I'd be leery of and even then it's probably fine. No reason to bust the others up (if that's your plan); I mentioned taking them apart mostly for knowledge.

If you do go that route and get the pins out you may or may not make more money for the effort. Heavy connector ends with a set payout rate and little processing vs very light pins that are normally scanned before pay rate is determined and lots of processing by comparison. Of course there is a benefit of reducing volume to store/ship.
