The image above is very similar. Has the same contents inside; also considered an IC

Another really cool unit that boasts yummy, are the CCDs, CCFLs, and the light bars from computer scanners/faxers multifunction units; CSIs ( Scintillator ) Someone just posted a CCD in the , "What is it". I believe these can go into the new Gold legged, no gold capped ceramic IC, if ceramic; newer are plastic. Half of them don't have a gold inlay or legs, but still can go into a CPU category or IC.

They all break down very easy or desoldering IC. Only be weary of the tiny tube lights inside of them. They break easy like spaghetti noodles and are SHARP!

Thanks for your reply. Good to know about the toxicity of the ceramic. Nice pictures. And. Again. Thanks for a detailed response.
Here to learn like everybody else.

The printer boards have gold wires that are exposed, been collecting those for awhile. Figure this might be the easiest way to get a button of gold without much effort (or chemicals) though it will take a fair amount of time.

Exactly mark! The same with the little nodes/dies of Rhodium on the ends of older HDD readers.

Cat, You could start your collection if wanted. You might need tiny little clippers or hair scissors but it's fairly easy to collect them; just don't drop it. They're kinda hard to find! haha! Needle nose tweezers work well.

Inside some ceramic produced PCBs they use small amounts of beryllium, BeO to be exact. High thermal capabilities or something. The same as lead, mercury, cadmium, if you break/cut/crush, or burn, don't inhale the dust and fumes.

Cautious as always just be logical.

Crystal oscillators used to use cadmium for a piezoelectric effect. Got to be careful of those old units too. Regulated in consumer but higher concepts, still use it.

I use reverse action tweezers (self closing)
