Pretty sure the vis. Sensor boards are just periph but could these go into CD board?

All peripheral
Cd boards must have a device controller, and I/o controller and buffer ram.

This is where I feel at a disadvantage, coming to the table from the recycling end, as opposed to the electronics realm

I asked because the ics on these boards look like that to me, (the large squares, controllers, the narrow rectangles, memory)

But all I have to go by are package sizes which obviously Don't amount to squat for id'ing function which is the (more, most?) Relevant measure of scrap value for ics

So, what can I be looking for in markings or ? To id the spec. Types of ics mentioned, ( controller; device, io) (buffer memory)

Ive read your posts about your extensive search database but there's got to be some easy IDs off hand

I have noticed that (almost) every cdrom board has a square ic label "nec"

That isn't an acronym for something something controller is it?

something something danger zone

Edit: did some googling, for center board) the large square is a "color processor interface asic" the "ndnx" that reminded me of memory, I couldn't find that exact item but other items in that series were listed on eBay as "memory, cache" I found one listing with the same serial but siemans branded, listed as "dram" these chips also show up on items that I would call ram

Honestly the easiest way to sort is by the part name
A motherboard being the large primary board in a commercially produced computer

A cd/dvd (Blu-ray) board is the larger main board of the drive.

A gold fingers card is a PERIPHERAL CARD (not not ram, not motherboard, not some strange credit card looking device)

On media drives in general you have two squares; one large, one a bit smaller. And one or more rectangles.
For CD and early DVD boards you’ll be looking for NEC or LSI.
Newer drives you’ll often see an M, matsushita And Mitsubishi both use M logos.
The use for the chips is easy to remember once you know what you are looking for. One is a CPU that controlls the drive. One is a “controller” that handles signals to and from the drive. The rectangles are memory cells. ROM and RAM. ROM for storing firmware (the dtive’s equivalent of bios) and ram for memory. The drive will always have some of the data held in memory incase of scratches, dirt, or a faulty laser.
CD drives have a few dozen or hundred kilobytes. DVD with a few megs at most.
Writers will have extra memory rectangles.

The only device controller boards that can go in the CD/DVD class are from cd/dvd/Blu-ray drives. Readers or writers.
Or
Magnetic tape boards for cassettes larger than compact cassette tapes (generally LTO tape drive boards)
Or
The boards from extreme storage floppy disk systems like Floptical, ZIP, JAZZ, etc.
If it’s anything else there’s a 99.9999~ percent chance it won’t be CD/DVD.
;)

Motherboards are the same general premise. If it’s not from a computer (PC/MAC) it’s most likely not a motherboard class board. Game systems? Nope. Cars? Nope. Your smart fridge or microwave? Nope.
As with CD there are exceptions. A single pair of Sony PlayStation consoles (gen 1 first release PS1, and Net Yaroze). The Sega Genesis Development computers (it’s a pc to begin with). The PC-FX (it’s a computer).
But here these exceptions as I pointed out in more detailed posts in the past: totally DOA, run over by a tank, then left in a permanent snow drift in northern Canada for the last three years... someone on eBay will STILL pay more for it than scrap. So these exceptions shouldn’t be sought after since they generally don’t enter the scrap market in any level of completeness. If you find an SX1A board in scrap at actual scrap rates it’s missing chips. Period. And I’ll put a PS4 new in box against that. Even Goodwill and Salvation Army auction them off DOA, usually around $10-$25.

Memory has fingers or it doesn’t. So memory with pin sockets isn’t memory.
If it had fingers and you cut them off, fingerless. If it never had fingers it’s low or high telco depending on population and complexity.

In short. It is what it came from.
If you don’t know... post a photo. :D
That’s what the forum is for.

Thnx for the knowledge, I like learning so I can ask fewer questions in the future.

That's been my understanding, that the CD class is principally for DISK control boards, and these aren't that,

The "processing" board from most compact digital cameras bear a close reaemblance to this,

Most of what I’ve sent would today be high telco.
That said as technology advances boards get less valuable for the same task.
Many modern entry level digital camera mainboards would fall into peripheral.

This compare to the earliest cameras like the Power Shot, or the eBay sponsored Quick Take from Kodak. Both of which went as Cell Phone boards many years ago; With many less classes. That’s obviously the exception.
Today the vast majority of boards from digital cameras will fall into peripheral or low telco. If it has a separate flash drive board that would normally be high telco on modern cameras.
Just be careful with the capacitor for the flash. There’s a LOT of energy stored in them. Short them out properly. I use a wide quarter inch screwdriver. Don’t look directly at the short either. Never heard of anyone going permanently blind but (from experience) it will mess with your vision for a few hours.
FUD aside; if you’re in any state of good health the capacitor is unlikely to kill you but it hurts like hell to discharge one into your hand.
