Those are definitely CPUs. Ibm implementations of Intel 32bit chips. One I believe is a 486-DX, the other is a AMD based MX686.
Let me cover your question and the other obvious one together. Apple CPU. “Apple”. Apple is the largest use company but other companies made variants as well. This is a socket that has pin connectors to multiple other chips (controllers) on the board. They allow the processor board direct access and override access to various components. Hence the Apple name Processor Direct Slot. This does not have such a connector architecture. Nor is it in the correct format size wise.
The slot processor architectures were the precursor to the direct access socket above. These cards and matching sockets have two or three matching connector rows. In a very simplified explanation that is not completely accurate; for general understanding: One is the standard bus connector. The other row is the direct access row. The card has separate memory for each level of cache. Ram for buffering beyond the cache, its own I/O controllers, etc. This has some of that but not all of it. This is obviously not a slot processor.
So I look at the two places it can not go, and then where it obviously would go. Gold finger card. This is more populated than any standard GFC AND has a full CPU on it. So I know it’s better that GFC. So I look at the list and figure the next acceptable spot in line. High telco.
