Recently, I had the good luck to have someone give me a Dell 2600 Server to play with.

I know that it is has a small dual-socket motherboard. But, I have no idea what those gold-finger card1 and card2 with heatsinks are. They came from the slots right next to the CPUs (Xeon). I checked their serial numbers on the net but nothing showed up.

Those are voltage regulators. You'll find ones similar to this in most major brand servers (Dell, HP, IBM, SuperMicro, etc), and there's usually one regulator for each CPU/chipset. You'll find these as well with a pin/socket connection; not as pretty, and I believe those go (with heatsinks off) as peripheral.

The ones with the large copper spindles on iron or ferrite go as peripheral
