Hey all, I'm a small-town community organizer who's been learning about e-waste recycling to give my neighbors a way to recycle their old computers. I just finished up a batch of 40+ laptops from our first community recycling event, and it's about 50/50 whether the motherboards have sockets or integrated CPUs. From the Boardsort videos on laptop motherboards and integrated motherboards, I *think* the laptop motherboards with integrated CPUs go in the laptop category, but I wanted to check before I sent them in. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, and for everything I've learned from lurking on the forum.

If it came from an actual laptop— windows, Mac, Linux, BSD— and not a netbook or chromebook it will go as a laptop board.
The actual qualifications are more strict but as long as the unit was larger than 14” and ran a full operating system you’re generally ok for the class grade.

Thanks! I'm going through the integrated-CPU boards and trying to separate the net/chromebook boards from the laptop boards. So far it looks like I might be able to differentiate by looking at whether they have RAM slots or integrated RAM. I've also noticed that the boards with RAM slots tend to have rectangular CPUs with two dies in them, while the boards with integrated RAM tend to have a square CPU with a single die. Am I on the right track for separating the two? Next time I will definitely be sorting them at the whole device stage when its easier to tell ^_^
