Accidentally broke a gold tab BGA. Curious if it is still the same price or did I make it worthless?

broken as in broken off a board ? and if so what? a motherboard? a gold finger card? a telco board with 5 or more other gold tab BGAs ? or is it just a broke chip?

If its been broken off a gold finger card or motherboard or high Peripheral board there is a good chance you down graded the board, I seem others say you can tape it on the board and send it in and still get the going rate but IDK about that.

do you have any photos of what you broke

nah that will buff out.

IDK about that, part of me wants to say you can slap a piece of tape on it and send it but IDK, I would email Chris about it or wait for others to chime in.

A piece of tape is fine.

I appreciate both of you for taking the time to read all of my questions and replies. They have truly helped me out over the last couple of weeks.

I did go ahead and slapped some tape on it to piece it back together and threw it in with my other BGA's. Reason I went ahead and removed it was based on the feedback from @austin86. I know you mentioned that was your personal opinion but I agreed with you and went with it. I was just in too much of a hurry and did not take my time removing it from the AMD that was discussed in another post.

remove heat sinks and cpu and it's a and motherboard. id be temped to remove the gold tab flat pack, don't normally see them on am/fm boards, probably could get away with it and keep the same grade but that's just me

Should be good to sneak it in as a am/fm board, still don't be shocked if it does get a down grade. Why I would remove it is because most AM2+ am3m am3+ am4 boards do not have gold tabbed chips, really only 754 and some AM2/939, and have gold tabs. Since a large bulk of the AM/FM boards don't have them I would think its safe to remove it with the board you posted a photo of. However removing gold tabs from a motherboard most of the time will downgrade it. AM/FM boards are the only ones I would think of removing them on.

EDIT: It looks like I-Series boards are in the same category as AM/FM boards and I never once seen a gold tab on one of those outside a few rare server boards with a onboard GPU or raid chip, is its likely safe to remove the gold tab on all of them. But that's just IMO.

It is all good, I appreciate the input. I am here to learn and with that, we all have to live to learn so if it is wrong, it was my decision. As Motley Crue once said, "Take a Ride on the Wild Side" lol.
