I been scrapping PSU's lately, I tend to brake them down myself for the copper to use for casting and making bronze, sometimes I'll use the heatsinks for making aluminum bronze but I was wondering if they count at clean aluminum heatsink, if they do I'll start tossing them in the clean aluminum heatsink pile as I have lots of lower grade aluminum to use for casting stuff.

I added a few photos so show what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the 2 big ones with the big transformer between them. assuming I clean them off, remove the steel tabs, any glue and so on.

As long as you remove all the other stuff on them yes, clean aluminum heatsinks.

I don't take PSUs apart currently, not enough time, but even when I was I would only remove heatsinks if I could easily access all the screws or leverage them off the steel posts or other connections. That way I wouldn't end up with steel stuck in the heatsink.
Course you can always rip them off, mosfets and all the other goodies, and then you don't have to worry about reaching the screws.

Thanks, I'll have to go through my aluminum pile and pull them all out

I'd never take PSU's apart if it was not for the fact that I use the copper in it for casting, its a lot of work to pull everything out of them when I can just scrap them as is for what 50 cents a LB now?

I got into working copper and bronze after moving in town next door to a gas station and can't use my old coal forge. I found out induction furnaces don't do a good job with heat treating or working larger bits of steel. I tossed a copper lug from a stock intel CPU heat sink in the induction furnace and found I loved working with copper and bronze more then steel. I may get a gas furnace for casting bigger stuff again but idk about the neighbor as those things make a lot of noise, but I'd love to get back into large scale casting again.
