This is where you call Boardsort and explain your situation. The Electronic Industry is a complicated ib
industry. That then overflows into the e-scrap businesses.
Here to learn like everybody else.

Unfortunately for complication : boardsort is actually on the shorter end of lists. I’ve you ever get the opportunity to visit a commercial yard, the type that buy trailers and rail cars full of scrap from other recyclers, you’ll find thousands of classes.
The largest yard I sell to has more than 40 classes of steel.

Another smaller yard I use buses copper, brass, and non-magnetic bronze as the same category.
They also have three escrap prices. High colour low colour and brown. A brown board cover rind in gold cap memory chips from a 70s mini computer still is 10c a pound :(

I learned this lesson the hard way. I have a local yard that pays the bottom price for everything.

Anything copper is getting the #2 price or worse, even bare bright.

Aluminum has one single price, and it's low.

The difference is they take everything, don't ask questions and are open Saturdays.

I finally discovered a yard that actually has a bunch of categories for stuff, but they are only M-F, banker's hours and don't take batteries, anything that ever had refrigerant, oil or gas in it; and they only pay shred price for boards.

Hence why I started using boardsort.

Newbie. Have not yet sold anything to boardsort. Was previously getting shred prices from a local yard.

I always joke about it since there are so very few and I’m lucky to have one, and a good relationship.

When you walk/drive into an international yard, your whole idea of scrap will be turned upside down.

The reality is when you get to the top (boardsort is king of the hill, they sell to the man on the mountain), figuring out what you have takes an actual degree. And those workers all have one.


I laugh that they laugh that after nearly 20 years I still can’t figure out their some 500+ different wire categories even though at this point I’ve sold something in every one of the classes.
