This was part of a stacked board, which I separated. These long pins that connected the two really caught my eye, so I clipped one and could not see silver. So I filed it down and even though it is hard to get a good picture, with the naked eye, it all looks to be solid. Do you handle these in a different manner, to me it seems like that would be a LOT of gold.

My gut reaction is to say it's highly unlikely they're solid gold, more likely brass in the middle. But you never know 100% unless you have a way to test.

Would you have a wider view picture of the board by chance? Sometimes context can help.

I asked Lost' this years ago about things being pure gold or close to it on PCBs; jewelry is going to be one of the only things closest to pure gold you'll find.

Think of it as a practical stand point, if things were pure gold the price and selling points would be astronomical. A mechanical point, that pin wouldn't be able to hold up or things would bend and give out too easy being pure gold.

There are things heavy plated or gold filled but never , 100% gold. 24 carat isn't even 100% gold if that puts a good thought to it.

Tethers and connecting points on silicon dies or ICs would probably be the next direct answer to that as well but takes a lot to add up. Barely see most of them with your naked eye, if at all.

I know they would not be "pure" gold. I have never seen a connector that was even close to solid, even 10k, just always plated. These were from about 1994, the pins just really looked different.

Looks like brass to me.
