I know there's a mixed wire price, and a ribbon cable price, but does anyone know of a good way to offload stuff like this where it's pretty obvious there's significant visible gold/silver?

You have less than 1/1000 dwt in gold there. At the average quality buyer rate of 88% you have about a penny maybe two.

Unless you have mega stock, its not worth it. It’s wire l.

Make sure you aren't breaking the glass to pull those off, nasty stuff in the screens and you don't want to, or have anyone you hand it off to, to get cut on the broken bits.

I have a 5 gal bucket about 1/3 to 1/2 full of these. Some are silver, most are gold.

As for breaking the glass, the ones in the picture came off of an lcd monitor and peeled off easily. Some of them I cut with scissors to make it fast.

I'm aware it's a small amount in each ribbon, but I'm eyeing the goal of when I fill the 5gal bucket...or the next two 5gal buckets.

Well I can do the rude maths for you.

If each one is identical to the one posted? Well, if one I a penny then 100 is a dollar. 100k could give you 100 dollars.

Here’s where intend to tell people good luck. *IF* you have a buyer, a good one, that also is good friends and really likes you, … maybe. See, the buyer is gonna loose 6-10% to the refinery. So they are going to pay you 70-80% spot.

Finding a reputable buyer, who is kind and honest, and has a refiner willing to take it; you are looking at $70-$80 for 10k. I’m my position I’m lucky enough to have such a buyer. And I willingly take 83% spot on gold because they pay me 90% on silver, meaning they are just above breaking even on my silver sales.

Now, if you want to self refine: I won’t re to stop you. I’ll just point to Moose Scrapper. Who’s videos are old now and the values are considerably off. But his percentage recovery is accurate. You’ll probably get less than half in recovery before you sell it as told.
And you’re dealing with body-melting acids, skin-burning bases, organically toxic cleaning salts, and respiratory issues. All to take that 100k of wire ends and bring in around 40-50 dollars in gold. Before you sell it and lose that percentage.



And no, we will not discuss self refining any further, don’t, anyone. Comments will be deleted for both safety and legal reasons.


All done, back to the post. I’m not a pessimist, I’m a rationalist. I’ve done everything you could think of to get gold out of scrap. If you have a buyer go for it. If not and you’re patient: there’s ebay. People buy crazy stuff to do that R thing.
For most people, it’s wire, end of story.

Actually, as a side note: more gold is lost-to-manufacturing in recycling wires than any other recovery commodity. Beyond that, general wire recycling is the largest loss of direct-access metals.

The companies recycling wires are after the wire itself. Ends get sliced and either wind up as steel (magnetic) shred, or low grade mixed brass (aluminium, tin, gold, silver, nickel, copper, brass, bronze— cable ends). Luckily boardsort deals with cable ends

Not all companies, recyclers, yards, but the majority.
