Happy holidays to everyone!

Hello. I came across this Apple razor thin server which had 2 of these cpus installed. I checked the Boardsort gallery thinking I was going to find it there but they only have a similar one under the category "no pin cpu." The one listed on the gallery seems to have a silver color on the front portion. The one I have is a Xeon X5550 and it is golden on both sides with green fiber so I am a bit puzzled.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

Kindly regards,
Natalia

Hi, if you go into the "sell material" page, you will see some additional categories.

This cpu would go as "Green/Brown Fiber No Metal" currently at $11/lb.

no metal meaning there is no heat spreader or IHS(integrated heat spreader) on the top, which this cpu does not have. The die is exposed.

Well the “gold” bottom is the LGA pads. Which doesn’t count as a cap. It’s worth less than the pins they replace.
That tiny gold cap would have me tossing it in green brown fibre no metal like most bga chips since it has a gold cap and no aluminium or tungsten spreader.
Despite being pinless.
This is a class breaker.

That was my initial reaction... however

I’m giving the poster the benefit of the doubt. I’ve seen stranger thing than gold cap green fibre chips out there. Like 14kt shell capacitors, palladium cap cpus, platinum pin 4040s, etc. So who knows...?

If that’s just a standard aluminium copper cap it will go as pinless.

Hello there friends,

Thank you so much for the replies. I'm sorry I couldn't answer sooner but some kid took a 2 way stop and hit my car pretty bad. Luckily I only have a black eye and a broken finger but I can type with the other 9, lol...

Anyways, I see these 2 CPU are in a problematic category. I'm glad I am not the only one scratching her head. I will follow your suggestions and see how it goes.

Thank you for taking the time lucas01230 and lostinlodos!

Kindly regards,
Natalia
