I'm new here, so take my words with a shake of salt.

None of those are better than midgrade. I would actually think that the big capacitors and other heavy items might bring the grade down...

Yep; all mid grade. 4877 has a socketed quad chip you can gently pop out for ic rate.

That's what I though just wanted to confirm - been a while since I've had a bunch of midgrade to process so just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything

On 4877, if you removed all the junk (large caps, txfmrs, all of the screw terminals) wouldn't you be looking at perif due to the ICs? OR is there something else about the board composite itself that is the limiter here?
Thanks for the education lost!

That's what I was wondering too...

I’m not 100% sure of all the reasons but I’ll give you my best rundowns.
Basically the grade is based on many factors beyond just ic population. PCB materials are also counted on in the factor. Where boards like this have a single copper layer in them, motherboards tend to have up to a quarter pound of copper and more nickel.
the Tandy computer photos I posted in what’s inside are a great example of how materials count in grade.
The layout is identical on both. The older green board has (apx) a pound of copper, multiple layers of it, thick silver-nickel traces, and heavy nickel shielding. The later brown/green board has a single copper layer, and two thin nickel layers. Nickel tin traces, and stainless shields. The old one is telco and the newer brown one is large socket (old) motherboard.

If you’re willing to remove stuff my suggestion is remove the ICs for Boardsort, and dump the board locally.

@lost don't think we got a clear answer...if the heavy stuff was removed from 4877 would it be upgraded to peripheral or no?
