For those inside technology or old enough to remember; AOL had lobbies (chat room home interfaces that lead to other sub chats). The tech and gaming lobbies had two pits. (based on the late 70s something weird comic magazines, original 300 tale, refocused in the 1998 comic and displayed wonderfully in the 300 movie). A crafty code someone made to exploit two bugs in the back end.
Occasionally bad users went in the pit of death, :push: They would get punted, aka disconnected, and have to dial back in and find the same lobby, not easy to do with dozens or hundreds of lobbies per topic. The pit of doom :kick: was a sort of time out. You’d be locked from doing any typing for a bit: a few seconds, a few minutes. Till the system found you and put your connection back where it should be. The death notice that users wrote up after a push or kick were often so humiliating that many guides (mods), helpers, and agents took to punishing ourselves to cut off the extreme write ups such punishments often got when you were gone.
There were holes too. Random. You’d be in VGS 18 and suddenly your in VGS 24. You’d need a door invite from another thread to get back in. :( ‘It’s guide:lost, anyone one in VGS 18? I fell through the hole...again’
