Two things to keep in mind with ICs is A) any yield you see on the Internet is wrong and B) any yield you see on the Internet is wrong. The oh so sought after Pentium Pro is a good example. I’ll take a single original 4004 or 4040 for refining over 10 Pentium pros every day of the week!
On a generic average you’re looking at 1-2 grams of gold per lb of chips on the higher end of the scale. Once you factor in materials cost you figure it eats about a quarter of the value away.
Granted a core or fx cpu is going to be a better yield than a 9765 bridge chip but when all things are averaged together it makes sense.
