My employer was getting rid of older PC equipment and I said
"I'll take that old IBM AS/400 machine!"
The VP of IT said "get it out of here!"

Is the Gold Cap Motorola Chip really solid gold on the top cap??
Or is that what we call it for ID?

Not solid gold. Not even gold plate really. But yes there’s really gold.
If you want to easily see how it adds value to a board... the amount of value averages about a $1 more for soldered gold cap CPUs on a board over telco.

In reality you could remove the cap and try to sell it separately, very frowned upon by Boardsort and the escrap industry in general; you’ll probably get a few bucks for it elsewhere. And deeply downgrade the board as well, likely turning it into peripheral here.
Not the inflated contents of what YouTube videos claim by any stretch though.

I am going to save the Gold Cap Board, don't have but one and it's worth more to me as a piece of history. But the 30 plus HDD with their thick gold fingers will be scrapped!
